SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES

There are so many different initiatives, processes, and choices we have made to try to make this the most sustainable event it can be, we have tried to put these into words… click on the titles to find out more.

Throughout the venue there are little green posters to tell our guests more about these and to inspire hope and climate action.

At the event of the event we will be sharing an impact report and aim to improve every year!

  • Thanks to Green Voltage, TOTG is powered by electric generators which are charged with 100% renewable energy through out the event. We even have a mini e-gen to power our Raclette machine.

TOTG is reducing its energy usage at every stage through limited and efficient appliances.

  • TOTG has minimised water usage across the toilets and kitchen. Using compost loos saves approximately 250,000L of water alone across the event. Guests will be advised to use our eco hand sanitiser when they can.

  • TOTG aims to send zero minimal waste to landfill through carefully chosen supplies and partnering with Vegware across food and drink packaging. Many of the Vegware plates and bowls are beautifully made from palm leaf.

All of the food waste and packaging will be collected together and made into compost.

  • TOTG has partnered with Sustainable catering company Arch Food.

They aim to use seasonal and local ingredients as much as possible although this is a challenge when trying to deliver an authentic alpine menu.

The menu has been designed to be low waste, use minimal water, and to be less energy intensive than a regular commercial kitchen.

The menu will include ‘zero waste’ products which have been saved from being wasted e.g crackers for the sharing boards and pickles.

Only 33% of the menu includes meat, this is low meat content compared to Alpine menus in order to encourage customers to eat veggie and vegan food.

Arch will deliver the food from East London in their Electric Van to save on travel emissions.

  • Using the melted ice water , our team water our potted Christmas trees weekly - a fully circular initiative!

  • The walls, doors, floors and some of the furniture is designed and built in Raw Tipis workshop in Windsor. We try to give reclaimed materials like pallets and scaffold boards a new life as much as possible.

Our fire pit tables use bioethanol which releases no smoke, 3.6 ppm of CO, and stays warm for 11 hours, being the most sustainable option.

  • We have tried to use B Corp and sustsinable brands across every aspect of our event;

Wine: We have an organic wine on offer for each red and white. Our rosé partner is B Corp Maison Mirabeau.

Beer: All of our beers are from the UK, and apart from Guiness they nearby in London. Our beer partner Prime Time uses one of the most innovative and sustainable Brewers in the UK.

Clothing: We have brought our staff aprons from B Corp company Banana Moon.

Hot Chocolate: We are using sustainable brand Islands Hot Chocolate (65% vegan) and Oatly plant based milk and cream to offer a very special vegan Alpine-inspired hot chocolate.

Gin: We have used Bombay who are have lots of sustainable practices and B Corp destillary Sipsmith.

  • All of the skis, sleds and skates are bought used and reclaimed from antique fairs (see our insta behind the scenes reel)

Damaged skiwear has been cleaned, repaired and up-cycled by our team to give it a new lease of life - check out our ski banisters!

  • Our Xmas decorations have been bought secondhand from antique fairs, or made from paper or wood (no nasty plastic glitter or plastic) - check out our paper baubauls!

All of our Christmas trees (included the little ones on the tables) are potted trees and will be looked after by our team during our event and until next year!

We are using real/dried plants to decorate the interior as much as possible, our team has spent time testing different plants inside to see what will last in our warm interior. Unfortuntatley not everything can be real for a 6 week event so some swags have been purchased and dressed with real plants so they uphold their structure across the event.

  • Our team will travel by bike, walk, or use public transport to reduce their travel emissions across the event as much as possible!

Unfortunately we don’t have e-trucks and vans in the UK yet that can pull the weight of the tipi equipment for enough distance!

Parsons Green is easily accessible by public transport, our customers will be encouraged to use public transport when they search for the venue location on our website.

  • All TOTG employees (and waiting team) are paid the London Living Wage or above.

The team will receive thorough waste training to ensure no contamination so that everything is recycled or composted during the event.

Many members of Raw Tipis immediate team are sustainability professionals.

  • TOTG has partnered with Hammersmith & Fulham Giving - the go-to organisation for funders and donors to understand and meet the needs of local people.

All transactions at TOTG and CM will include an opt-in option to donate to H&F Giving.

Organisations at Community Mornings are encouraged to make a donation of their profits to H&F Giving or reduce the price of their activity so it is more affordable for H&F residents.

  • Community Mornings will showcase local health and wellness classes like Yoga, Pilates and mindfullness classes for individuals and mothers.

Local support groups and charities are using the space for free to hold Christmas socials for their members.

  • Community Mornings will include Christmas meet-ups for Climate Group members and other locals who are interested in taking climate action. See Creatives for Climate Event on December 16th and our Conscious Christmas Panel.

  • Community Mornings will showcase circular fashion initiatives, swap shops, and clothing repair workshops to encourage people to buy more consciously this Christmas time.

We are holding a ‘Sustainable Christmas Panel’ with sustainable business leaders to showcase different psostive business practices as well as to inspire citizen action.

  • Hands on creative workshops will encourage people to get in touch with nature, their imagination and creativity.

Gingerbread decoration classes for children will be run by a local bakery to get children in the festive spirit and local charity LMP Action will be holder a roster of activities for children in the X Mas break.

Creative workshops like Wreath making, Patchwork, Moss Art etc will encourage people to create and upcycle and use natural materials - giving new value to the nature around us and things we already own!

  • We are using a cleaning service which hires local mums and we have chosen non-toxic cruelty free cleaning products for this service and through out our venue!

  • Where has it come from? What impact will it have? Where will it end up? Is there an alternative? Questions we ask ourselved on a daily basis before making decisions on what we buy. It’s easy to assume this will mean it will be more expensive, while this is often true, this isn’t always the case (especially when you can make it yourself).

We have chosen more sustainable products across our print merchendise as much as possible. Our Heras Fencing Banners and Park Banners are made from one type of plastic so can be reycled. We have removed dates from alot of our print so that they can be re-used next year. And our paper menus and posters will be printed on reycled paper and will be limited as people are encouraged to order using QR codes.

The track (food people and vehicles) that is laid surrounding the Tipis is made from 100% reycled bottles, so while it just looks like plastic it is pretty special.

Closing the Loop: We use Ebay to buy second hand as much as possible across the event (this is always our first look) - We then look to Etsy to support local or small businesses and makers (also the porducts are lot more unique) OR we design and make them ourselves in our workshop (our founders are both creatives)…

The chalet inspired Tipi walls (all 13 of them), wooden flooring, bar & back bar, sink area, firepit tables and much more has been throughfully designed made lovingly by Raw Tipis team in our workshop in Windsor (check out our IG reel for behind the scenes footage).

One of our team is an Enviornmental Design Masters student as is currently giving vape batteries a new life - we are collecting used vapes at the event.

We buy Little Green water-based paints to decorate, they contain natural, organic and safe synthetic pigments without any dangerous ingredients.
